Do You Need to Replace Your Number Plate?

There’s a few reasons why you might need to replace your plates. Maybe they’ve been damaged in a parking knock, faded after years of exposure to the elements, or become difficult to read.

You might also be buying a new car, changing to a private registration or simply fancy giving your vehicle a bit of an upgrade.

Whatever the reason, Plate Mate gives Brighton drivers a choice of plate styles and finishes, including options for everyday road use and show plates for display.

Simply enter your registration, choose your preferred style and order online. We’ll make your plates and send them straight to you.

How Do Brighton Number Plates Work?

Brighton number plates follow the standard UK registration format of AB12 CDE.

The first two letters show the area where the vehicle was originally registered. Brighton falls within the G registration area, so you may see registrations beginning with combinations such as GA, GB, GC or GD.

The two numbers show when the vehicle was registered, while the final three letters are randomly assigned.

However, if you have a classic car, Brighton and Sussex area codes used to use different area codes, so you might see plates beginning with AP (East Brighton), CD (Brighton), and FG (Brighton) on specific vintage vehicles.

So, a modern Brighton registration might look something like GA26 ABC. The registration stays with the vehicle, though, so a car with a Brighton-area plate can be driven anywhere in the UK.

If you’re replacing your Brighton number plates, you can keep the same registration and simply choose the style you want.

Number Plate Styles for Brighton Vehicles

Whether you want something simple or a little more eye-catching, there’s a plate style to suit your car.

Standard plates

The simple everyday option. Clean, durable and road-compliant, they’re ideal when you simply need a reliable replacement set.

3D gel

Raised, glossy characters give your registration a little more depth and a premium appearance. A popular choice for drivers who want something smarter without going overboard.

4D plates

Precision-cut acrylic characters create a sharper, more modern finish. They work particularly well on newer cars and vehicles with a sportier look.

Pressed number plates

Traditional embossed characters give these plates a more classic appearance, making them a good fit for older cars, restorations and retro builds.

Black/silver plates

Available for qualifying historic vehicles, these offer the traditional black-and-silver appearance associated with classic cars.

Show plates

Designed for car shows, events, photography, garage displays and other off-road uses. Show plates aren’t road-compliant for use on public roads.

Custom Brighton and Hove Albion Number Plates

Football-inspired number plates are a very popular gift choice for people. They look great on a wall in an office, your home or workplace. You can customise your number plate to suit your needs – just remember that it’s likely that heavily customised plates will not be allowed on roads!

You can make custom show plates inspired by the club, whether that’s a player’s name or squad number, your own nickname or another design.

They’re a fun option for:

  • Football fans
  • Birthday gifts
  • Garage displays
  • Car shows
  • Photography
  • Collections and memorabilia

If you’re creating a Brighton and Hove-inspired plate for display, the show plates setting on our Plate Builder gives you much more freedom over the design.

For anything being used on public roads, however, you’ll need to choose a road-compliant plate that meets the relevant requirements.
